Hi friends, I wanted to show you all my little travel hacks so you can squeeze the maximum amount into your bag. If you’re like me you need 5 outfits for the trip and 10 outfits to back that up “just in case”. I am going to show you how to get all your stuff into one bag without the end result of struggling to get it zipped- I’ve been there done that and now I can pack with ease! 😉

I take my fair share of trips every year SO I feel like I definitely have learned how to pack a suitcase. My latest trip that I am beyond excited for is in T W O days!!!  I am headed to Europe for two and a half weeks with my fiancé, Hunter.

Alright so let’s get to the good stuff!

First piece of advice…INVEST IN GOOD LUGGAGE. I can not say that enough. There is nothing worse than your luggage breaking while you are traveling. I have had three sets of luggage break and let me tell you, I was not a happy camper. I purchased a Delsey suitcase and it has been great. It is spacious and has been the best suitcase to travel with, not to mention it is also pretty cute! I want to try the Away brand as my next purchase, but I am happy with my Delsey bag right now.

Plan your outfits before you begin packing. This will save you time and reduce the risk of overpacking 😉 I normally pack a few extra smaller pieces, but this helps to make sure you do have the things you actually need.

Roll your clothes people. I know you probably hear that all the time, but be careful with what you roll in order to optimize space. DO roll your daily shirts, dresses, skirts, pajamas, thinner pieces. DON’T roll thick jacket, sweaters, any piece that is larger. I know people say roll it all but that just doesn’t work, in my opinion. For thicker pieces, rolling can end up taking more space. I normally lay my jeans between roll layers, or on top so that they aren’t taking up an absurd amount of space.

Pack versatile pieces. Pack some basic tees, easy things to pair with accessories and make sure that your shoes will go with all the outfits you pack. Generally I pack three to four pairs of shoes. I pack heels for special occasions, normally Hunter has a military event I am accompanying him to. Then I also pack sneakers, flats, and some sandals or boots, depending on the weather. Those hot pink stilettos in the back of your closet that you don’t normally wear…probably not a good idea and in the long run, not worth taking up space for.

Get some luggage cubes. I just recently purchased some off of amazon and I am so happy I did. They are perfect for separating your intimates from everything else, and theres a mini laundry bag for your dirty clothes. I like separating things into their own compartments, this just makes me feel more organized and put together.

Use travel size toiletries when you can. If you are going to be in Hawaii for a week, you could probably survive with some travel sized shampoo and conditioner. Throw in some dry shampoo and you’ll be good! Even if you are leaving for two weeks and wash your hair daily, using two travel size tubes of shampoo/conditioner is probably going to take up less space than full size bottles. I packed full-size bottles once…never again. I think Hunter would kill me if I did that because they took up so much space and they weighed a ton!

Plan for the weather. The first time I went to New York was in the winter and I was not prepared. I was freezing the majority of the trip and packed the wrong things. If you are going somewhere you haven’t been or are not used to, look at the weather and pack accordingly. I know this is basic and pretty much common sense but I didn’t do this and I definitely regretted it.

Stuff your shoes and get vacuum sealed bags. If I am doing a bigger trip and don’t want to pack with the suitcase that could probably carry a body in it then I use vacuum sealed bags. I put my rolled up clothes inside these and then this helps take the air out so I can maximize the space I do have. Stuff your shoes with socks sometimes can help also!

You are now ready to pack your bags like a pro 😉 Enjoy your trip!
