Hi everybody, I hope your holiday was wonderful and everyone is ready to kick off the new year! I am headed into a new quarter at UW and I wanted to share with you some steps I take in order to ensure that I have a successful and productive quarter. I know these steps help me so I hope these help you too!
TIP #1: PUT IMPORTANT DATES ON YOUR CALENDAR
Whether you prefer a digital calendar, physical planner or a giant calendar on the wall, writing out important dates (exams, papers, projects, etc.) is always a good idea! This helps me prepare for what is coming up and also allows me to set aside time to complete anything that was assigned for the day. Staying on top of assignments and not falling behind is key!
TIP #2: TAKE NOTES
Taking notes and reviewing sounds simple, but actually doing them is another story. Take notes however you believe is best for you, personally, I like Cornell notes because I can easily review them and quiz myself. Another easy option is to make online flashcards on a website like Quizlet. Just make sure you are actively learning and you will definitely see an impact on your grades!
TIP #3: PLAN AHEAD
If you know that you have two major assignments due in one week and an exam as well, you should probably plan ahead and make sure you are making time for each of those assignments. This is why writing it out on a calendar is important and very helpful. Being blindsided and then realizing the week before that three major events are coming up is the worst. Make time to study and work on things ahead of time so you aren’t stressed the week (or even day) before.
TIP #4: MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF
One of the biggest mistakes I made last year was that I didn’t make time for myself. Do something you enjoy- whether that is going for a walk, watching a movie, doing a face mask, playing a game with friends, going for coffee, working out…do something that isn’t related to school. Clear your head and get a breath of fresh air because getting burnt out mid-quarter is not good!
TIP #5: DON’T PROCRASTINATE
Easier said than done, I know. Do assignments as they come and chip away at the assignments you have so that you aren’t swamped all the time. Take at least a little time out of each day to read, review and study. This also helps to even out your workload and give you some time to do what you like to do like as I mentioned earlier.
Hope these tips help make your quarter the best yet!
